Description
Polymer-based HPLC phase for the separation of sugars. Sulfonated polystyrene/divinylbenzene resins in Na-ion form. The separation mechanism is based on steric exclusion, ligand exchange and partitioning effects, with ligand exchange being the predominant force as the hydrated metal ions form strong interactions with the hydroxyl groups of the sample molecules. The intensity of these interactions decreases in the order Pb, Ca, Ca, Na.
